Executives Return from Unprecedented
Trip to Mainland China
La Jolla, CA - Renaissance Executive Forums, a leading provider of advisory board services for a company’s top executive, just completed an unprecedented trip to Mainland China for several of its members. The La Jolla California-based Corporation led an expedition for members from all over the world that combined interaction with government and business leaders in five major cities with tourist-related activities.
The starting point was Beijing, with tours of Tiananmen Square, The Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, the Great Wall and the Panda Exposition at the Beijing Zoo. A full day at China’s Silicon Valley or ZhongGuanCun (more frequently referred to as “Beijing Z-Park”) included a detailed overview focusing on the park’s rapid development and future direction. This 256 square mile area devoted to high tech businesses currently houses over 13,000 companies with abundant representation from the Fortune 500. The group toured Harbour Networks, China’s premier provided of network systems and the Life Sciences section of Z-Park - an impressive array of bio-tech companies and major medical institutions. The final stop was at the Incubator Center which provides free rent and expense support to entrepreneurs with an idea that is deemed promising by the selection committee.
Next the group flew to Xian, best known today for having one of the most impressive sights in the world…the Terra-Cotta Army. The next flight took the group to Dongying, where a magnanimous welcoming banquet was hosted by the Vice Mayor of Dongying. Participants received details about the Dongying Economic Development Zone (DEDZ) the following day in a briefing by the Chairman and Vice Chairman of this area, which helped members understand the benefits of doing business in the DEDZ or with companies situated in this locale. Members then toured SINOPEC Shengli Highland Company, a major manufacturer of heavy components for oil drilling rigs; Shandong Jofo Non-woven Fabric Company; Dongying Keying Laser Electronics Company whose 8,000 employees in this facility produce a major portion of the laser read/write heads in the world; Dongying Tianxin Textile Company; and Huaya Dongying Plastic Pipe Company.
In Qingdao, after a highly professional presentation by the Chairman of the Qingdao Economic Development Zone, the group toured the Haier Group’s primary manufacturing center that employs over 30,000 people at this site in the design and production of home appliances. That evening, the Vice Mayor of Qingdao hosted the Executive Forums members and spouses to an elegant banquet that was also attended by twenty-five local CEOs.
The last stop was Shanghai, where the group was briefed by the Deputy Governor of the Pudong Productivity Center, the General Manager of the China Development Bank and the Director General of the Pudong Bureau of Economics and Trade.
Throughout the trip members learned much about business operations in these areas and the opportunities for mutually beneficial business relationships as well as investment opportunities. All were impressed by the ability of Chinese business and government leaders to make things happen very quickly and on a scale that prior to the visit was unimaginable. Of equal magnitude was the impression associated with the desire of China’s leaders to engage in a business relationship with foreigners…they portrayed an eagerness to “do what it takes” to put a deal together and offer incentives that mandate serious consideration from all corners of the globe.
