David Hurwitt runs his successful Executive Forum in Fairfield and New Haven Counties, usually meeting in Norwalk, The group is composed of owners and CEOs building their businesses in a wide range of industries, from manufacturing and point of purchase advertising to financial services and ski gloves. Their diversity of perspective greatly enriches the “out-of-the-box” thinking that the members share with each other.
David’s facilitation and leadership skills grew from more than thirty years of multi-industry, multi-national (US, UK & France) marketing and management experience; he has run businesses and built brands in both the packaged goods and service industries. David began his business career at General Foods, where he spent 26 years in both marketing and general management roles. He served as Corporate VP, Marketing & Communications, ran the company's $600 million Post Cereal Division, and also spent six years in Europe as an international President, first of General Foods Ltd. in England and then of GF's subsidiary in France.
He also worked for several years as Senior Vice President, Marketing for Flagstar, a $3.7 billion food service company based in South Carolina. They owned Denny's, Quincy's in the Southeast and El Pollo Loco in California, and were the largest franchisee of Hardee's Food Systems. In this role he was the marketing leader for more than 2,500 quick service and mid-scale restaurants, overseeing a $100 million marketing budget.
He then spent the next seven years consulting with both large and small companies, improving their understanding of their customers and their competitive effectiveness by helping them identify and meet both their strategic and executional challenges. He began building his Renaissance groups in early 2004.
David grew up in Kansas City, and earned both a BA and MBA from Harvard University. He currently lives in Rowayton, Connecticut with his wife, Susan. They have four grown children and eight grandchildren. He serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations, including Shakespeare On The Sound in Rowayton, Creative Connections, and the Institute for Global Ethics.
